Purpose

Have you been told you need an Awareness? No, it's not a New Age expression - it's about learning the basics about the safe transportation of dangerous goods by air. Based on the current edition of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, this course covers the recognition, handling and stowage of dangerous packages. It also provides an understanding of procedures that will help detect hidden hazards when accepting air freight. This course will not qualify you to accept, document or package dangerous goods.

Different awareness courses are available, depending on what you do.

Course Categories

Flight Crew, Load Planners & Check-in Staff: This course provides training on Australian dangerous goods legislation, acceptance of non-dangerous cargo, identification, handling, stowage of dangerous goods and emergency procedures for flight crew, aircraft loaders and check-in staff involved with the operation of a commercial aircraft. The syllabus is in accordance with the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) regulations.

Drivers & Warehouse Personnel: This course provides training on acceptance of non-dangerous cargo, recognition, and the correct handling and stowage of dangerous goods intended for air transport and is in accordance with CASA regulations.

Course Qualification and Recognition

This course is approved by:

• The Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia (CASA).

A certificate is issued on successful completion of an end-of-course questionnaire and the qualification is valid for TWO YEARS.

Who Should Attend?

The courses are suitable for anyone who requires a general understanding of shipping dangerous goods by air. The course is required under CASA legislation for airline and air freight forwarder staff involved with acceptance and/or handling of air freight.

Level of Competency

No previous knowledge or experience with air transport.
